| Serafin Zubiri was born in Pamplona on 20th
April 1964. Due to his blindness he attended specialized schools, firstly in Pontevedra
and later, in Madrid. Whilst studying for EGB and BUP (primary and secondary education) he
came into contact with music, learning the piano. "Since I was four I understood that
music is my destiny", says Serafin. At 17, on completing his studies, he formed the
group "Equus", in fact a dance orchestra, in Pamplona for which he was the
pianist and singer. "It helped me to turn my knowledge into experience of singing on
the scene". In 1987 he recorded ‘Intentalo’ (try it), his first disc. The following year he released his second album ‘Pedaleando’ (pedaling), whose main hit became the theme of the Tour de Espana in the same year. In 1991 he recorded ‘Detras del Viento’ (behind the wind) which became a big hit due to the success of the song ‘Polvo de Estrellas’ (Stardust). In 1992 he was chosen to represent Spain in Eurovision with the song ‘Todo esto es la musica’ (All this is music) from his album ‘Te Veo con el Corazon’ (I watch you with my heart) in the Swedish city of Malmo. At Christmas of the same year he performed the main theme from the film ‘Beauty and the Beast’(La Bella y La Bestia) which became a commercial success. In 1995 the title track of his new album ‘Un Hombre Nuevo’ (a new man) was released which illustrated the sporting experience lived by Serafin when he reached the peak of Aconcagua (Argentina – 6959 metres), the highest mountain in America. He made his acting debut in 1996 when he appeared in the Tele 5 series ‘Todos los Hombres Sois Iguales’ (All men are the same). He also made his presenting debut in the Canal 4 Navarra programme ‘Sin Limites’ (No Limits). During 1997, 98 and 99 he directed and presented a daily music magazine on Onda 10 Navarra radio. In 1999 he performed in the musical ‘La Magia de Broadway’ (The magic of Broadway) in which were united "Cats", "Jesus Christ- Superstar", "Evita" and other famous musicals. He has returned to his singing career, representing Spain in Eurovision 2000 which took place on May 13th in Stockholm. Serafin Zubiri, with the song ‘Colgado de UN Sueno’ (Hanging from a Dream -'Dancing on Rainbows in the English version) (composed by Chema Puron). From May 2nd, 2000 his new record is on the market which is also entitled ‘Colgado de UN Sueno’, produced by Vamm records. He is also an accomplished sportsman, in 1994 – Climbed Aconcagua, Kilimanjaro, Mont-Blanc and other mountains. He ran in the following marathons: New York 1995, Madrid from 1995 to 1999, Seville in 1996, San Sebastian from 1994 to 1998, Pamplona from 1994 to 1998, and Vitoria in 1997. As a track athlete he became the 1500m Spanish champion in 1991 in the blind championships and is holding Spanish record in 800m. |
