Karolina
told mass-media that she may refuse to appear at the contest if she is not allowed to sing
her song in English. She feels she is at an unfair advantage if pushed to retain her
native language in the performance. "Immediately after I won Skopje 2002 I was told that I would sing in Macedonian, although there was some room left for the possibility to record the song in two versions, Macedonian and English in order to see which one would sound better. Then a final decision was to be made." Having completed both versions, she told that the English version sounded far better. Ljupcho Jakimovski, General Director of the MKRTV, recently announced that the song would be performed in the Macedonian language this year. "We have submitted the official forms of the EBU where we have said that the composition will be sung in Macedonian. I don't know why there are now doubts and questions about this issue," he told reporters. The EBU contest rules insist that details of which language is to be used need to be specified by participating broadcasters by March 20. Minor changes in the song presentation may be permitted up until two weeks prior to the contest, though the language in which a song is to be performed is considered a major change and would not normally be permitted after March 20. As a compromise, it has been suggested that the song should be presented in a dual language version, half in English, half in Macedonian. Karolina though has already made it clear in interviews that she would not favour such an option. news from ESCOL |
