| This year Turkish broadcaster TRT decided not to conduct televised national final and announced that Turkish representative in Riga will be Sertab Erener. Later her song "Everyway that I can" written by Demir Demirkan and singer herself was internally chosen. | Sertab Erener was born in
Istanbul in 1964. After she completed her primary education, she started her professional
music career in Istanbul Municipality Conservatory, and continued in Government
Conservatory. She addicted herself to music which she stood out during her 6 years of
education. After she graduated from Consevatory, Sertab started to stage in the known
clubs of Istanbul with her own orchestra. Meanwhile at the end of the 80s she was working
as a back vocal behind Sezen Aksu, the queen of Turkish pop. She participated in
Eurovision finals twice with the songs Hasret (1989) & Sen Benimlesin
(1990) and took the attention of the audience with her great performance Sakin Ol, the debut album of Sertab, had been released in 1992 and become the best selling album of the year. Then with her second album La'l and the third one Sertab Gibi, she became one of the biggest female stars of Turkey. Furthermore in Jose Carreras's Istanbul concert the duet which Sertab made with him proved her success in Classical Music. In 1999, Sertab's self titled album had been released. With the amount of 1.000.000 sales, this album was rewarded platinum by Sony Music International. Sony Music has also rewarded Sertab's song La'l by placing it into the "100 songs of the century". She also sang One More Cup Of Coffee in another special album made by Sony Music International for Bob Dylan songs She released the single Zor Kadin in Belgium before her first album Sertab again in Belgium, and later on made her first collaboration with Ricky Martin with the unforgettable song Private Emotion. She made other collaborations with Belgian acapella group "Voice Male" with Zor Kadin and Greek diva Mando with her song Ask/Fos. In the summer of 2000, she released a maxi single named Bu Yaz for her Turkish audience. In 2001, she released her fifth album Turuncu, which she calls as the album of happiness. This time more energic, and more happy songs she had been singing. In the beginning of 2002, she released a single with a lovely new-year song: Kendime Yeni Bir Ask Lazim. |
